St Mary’s Primary School Celebrates the Grand Opening of New Library

On Tuesday, 10th September, the atmosphere was brimming with joy and anticipation at St Mary’s Primary School, as staff and pupils celebrated the grand opening of their brand-new library. The event was graced by a host of notable guests, including the Mayor of Waverley, representatives from the Parish Council, the Chiddingfold Community Fund, the Local Committee, the Good Shepherd Trust, and the school’s dedicated PTA.

The day began with a vibrant whole-school assembly, where the children eagerly welcomed and expressed their gratitude to the special guests and received an enthusiastic introduction into the joys of reading.  After this, pupils gathered outside as the Mayor of Waverley cut the ceremonial ribbon, officially marking the opening of the library. The joyous occasion was further blessed by Reverend Rachel, who performed a special blessing for the new space. The library has long been a cherished dream for the school community, and this milestone was made possible through the generous donations from the community fund and parish council, coupled with the PTA’s tireless fundraising efforts over the past year.

The children were also thrilled to welcome award-winning author Eve Ainsworth and local author and illustrator Mike Byrne, who spent the day working with each class, igniting their passion for books, nurturing a love for reading, and potentially inspiring the next generation of authors and illustrators!

The excitement among the children was palpable, and the new library promises to be a vibrant hub for nurturing a lifelong passion for reading. The entire school community is immensely grateful for the support and dedication that made this project a reality. Thank you to everyone who contributed to bringing this wonderful new facility to life, ensuring that our future generations have a place where their imaginations can flourish.
